Qualifying Criteria: 

• Grade 11 or equivalent qualification
• 3-5 years’ experience in Engineering in a mining or industrialized environment is essential and required
• Have knowledge of Shaft signalling systems to ensure smooth operation of the cage
• Ability to perform physical activities (equipment and material loading and offloading up to 32.5kg unassisted, bend, climb, etc.)
• Good knowledge of Shaft and Underground stations
• Work flexible hours including Sundays and Public Holidays
• Proficient in English and any other of the 11 official languages
• Applicant must possess good verbal communication skills
• South African Citizenship
• Clear Criminal Record

Responsibilities: 

• Work a cycle or rotation of shifts
• Provide efficient support within Engineering Shaft Section
• Assist the Onsetter to carry out their day to day duties efficiently
• Assist in transportation of personnel to and from underground
• Ability to work at heights is essential and required
• Assist in shaft maintenance and any other duties that may be given from time to time
• Ensure and maintain good housekeeping around the area of responsibility
• Manage and maintain in area of responsibility in accordance with mine standards, procedures and practices
• Adhere to MHSA standards & Gold1’s safety motto : “Nothing is so important that it cannot be done safely”
